The Rothko reminds me of The Great Gatsby. The distinct layers of color symbolize the distinct social hierarchy. In some parts the colors subtly blend but never become fully incorporated into the block colors. This reminds me of Gatsby. He can associate himself with old money socialites, but he will never truly be one of them. He is insoluble in the tepid waters of social convention.

Cosmo Campoli's Bird of Peace symbolizes the two distinct regions of society in The Great Gatsby. The smaller eggs represent west and east egg. The larger egg connects the two eggs. While the eggs have an overarching similarity, they are inevitably separated by wealth and social standing. The big egg grasps the little eggs representing the power that money, status and social pedigree have in the eggs.

The Skrebneski photograph is symbolic of society women in The Great Gatsby. The photograph looks like a single woman in a cream chiffon dress, as in The Great Gatsby, however she is warped into three images. This reminds me of the transformation that superficial women take according to their surroundings. Their disingenuous, manipulative nature is apparent to Tom like a three part photograph of the same woman. Always changing. Always deceitful.
